The Science: Light vs. Ink
The primary reason colors shift between digital devices and physical products comes down to how color is created—using light versus using physical pigments.
RGB (Screens & Monitors)
Stands for Red, Green, and Blue. Monitors, phones, and TVs use tiny lights (pixels) that emit light directly into your eyes. When all colors combine at full intensity, they create bright white.
CMYK (Physical Printing)
Stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black). Printers use physical inks layered on physical substrates (like aluminum or coroplast) that absorb and reflect ambient light.
Why We Recommend CMYK Art Files
Because screens use glowing light (RGB), they can display neon and ultra-bright hues that physical ink (CMYK) simply cannot replicate. When an RGB file is sent straight to print, color-conversion software has to approximate those bright tones, sometimes resulting in duller or shifted colors. Designing and submitting your art files in CMYK ensures the colors you see on your layout translate as accurately and vividly as possible onto your finished physical signs.
